Open Show Competition
Something must be done…. about open shows!!!
Once upon a time, and not so very long ago, many enthusiastic exhibitors went to an average of 2 or 3 shows a month, perhaps only one of them would be a championship show, but the others would probably be a local open show, comparatively inexpensive and within easy driving distance. For a good number of reasons, these shows have declined in numbers and popularity, but their importance in the range of canine activities has if anything, greatly increased. They are the training ground for our future championship judges.
Aspiring judges can only move up the scale to the ‘A’ list, which qualifies them to award CCs, once they have judged the necessary number of dogs and classes that provide the required experience.
When entries at an open show are low, it not only takes the future judges a very long time to qualify. Show societies may stop scheduling breeds with low attendance ratings.
Without a regular top-up of newly qualified CC judges, the numbers of those officiating will decrease and those remaining will appear more frequently, both the popular ones and unpopular.
Our committee has decided to try and reverse this trend.
In 2008 we started a new annual competition for members who go to open shows. Points will be awarded to dogs, on a sliding scale, who have successes at open shows. Points will be awarded for – BIS, Group and Class placings with a bonus for achieving Show Certificate of Merit (ShCM).
There will be a trophy and a cash prize for the winner.
Please forward details of your achievements to Christine Towner by phone or fax on 01280 700964
Points are NOT awarded for classes at Championship shows WITH or WITHOUT CC's.
Points can be achieved at General and Group Open Shows.
Wins in variety classes count as per breed classes if NO breed classes are scheduled.
